Project: Apex Tower Car Park Refurbishment
Client: New Malden, Surrey
The project:
Apex Tower is a 110,000 sq. foot office block occupied by a high-profile plc with approximately 300 staff based at this particular location. The site has the benefit of the adjoining multi-storey car park, utilised by its workforce. The car park had no previous deck waterproofing and had suffered with water ingress for many years. APA Concrete Repairs Ltd were invited to work alongside the Client’s Consulting Engineer to assist with potential solutions and to provide exploratory investigation and testing works to enable a suitable deck joint support detail to be designed, as well as advise on further repair and protection measures.
The solution:
The Client had opted for a programme of refurbishment which included steel plate strengthening to deck joints, concrete repairs, fairing coats, anti-carbonation coatings, preparation and application of waterproof car park deck membranes, joint re-sealing, additional drainage installations, and other associated works. APA Concrete Repairs Ltd carried out all works on site with their own multi-skilled, trained and fully certified in-house resources, thereby negating the problems often encountered using sub-contract labour. A traffic management system was designed to enable the car park to remain in use by the building occupants throughout the works.
The outcome:
The Apex Tower Car Park was successfully refurbished, and APA provided the Client with a high-quality anti-slip waterproof deck system (complete with a 10-year warranty), providing a sealed top deck and ensuring enhanced protection from water borne chlorides.
